MG walks off Centennial in the 9th

Box Score 4/11/2024

Maple Grove 2, Centennial 1 (9 inn)

Evan O'Dwyer started on the mound for the Crimson and went five (5) strong innings, giving up two singles, walking two Cougars, and striking out six (6) without giving up a run. Brody Berglin took over for O'Dwyer in the sixth and promptly gave up the only Centennial run. However, Berglin was strong on the hill as well, eventually gathering in the win, pitching four (4) innings, also giving up only two hits, while striking out two.

The Crimson struck back in the bottom half of the inning when Berglin's double plated Kaden Harney. The Crimson were paced at the plate by senior Nathan Schmidt (3/4 2x2B BB). Kellen Riskedahl and O'Dwyer had the remaing MG hits on the night. Connor Wihlm threw out two base runners stealing, and the defense was spotless in 32 chances in the field.

With two outs in the bottom of the second extra frame, Beckett Shimpa walked, took second on a wild pitch, moved to third on Riskedhal's hot shot base hit to left field, and scored as the ball rolled under the left fielder's glove. This was the Crimson 9's first victory of 2024 in their second extra-inning affair.
