Crimson rally late but leave bases loaded to end a 2-1 defeat at Buffalo

Box Score 4/22/2024

Buffalo 2, Maple Grove 1

Cole Lindberg, Buffalo's starting pitcher, stymied the Crimson for four and two-thirds innings of no-hit baseball before Connor Wihlm finally broke the seal with a two-out double to right field. Meanwhile, Buffalo scratched across a single run in the second off MG starter Beckett Shimpa (3.1IP 3H 1ER 7K) on two walks, a single, and a passed ball. The Bison added their second (and eventual winning) run in the fourth with two singles, a walk, and a wild pitch.

The Crimson scored their lone run in the sixth to cut the lead in half. Nathan Schmidt walked to lead off the inning. Shimpa followed with a single to center field, and Schmidt moved to third on a fielder's choice. With one out, Evan O'Dwyer hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Schmidt. Brody Berglin followed with a single and Kayden Harney walked to load the bases with two outs, but Dylan Vokal flied out to right to end the threat.

After Matthew Kuno (2.2IP 2H 0R 3K) held Buffalo scoreless in the bottom of the sixth, Maple Grove came to bat ready to rally. Two one-out errors by the Bison second baseman, and a walk to Shimpa loaded the bases again for the Crimson. But, alas, it was not meant to be, as the Maple Grove three- and four-hitters struck out to end the game and give the Bison a 2-1 victory.
