Bats bust loose for Crimson in 11-3 win at Totino-Grace

Box Score 5/11/2023

Maple Grove 11, Totino-Grace 3

Sam Hagen earned the win on the mound for the Crimson, throwing four solid innings, spreading out four hits and one walk, surrendering one run, while striking out five. But the story of the day were the bats coming to life and producing runs. Sam Kliber led off the third inning with another bunt single and eventually scored on Hunter Gerber's ground ball to the right side of the infield. The Eagles would tie the game with their own run in the bottom half of the inning. After a scoreless fourth, Maple Grove plated two more runs in the top of the fifth, all during a two-out rally. Tanner Albeck got on base on an error and stole second base. Hunter Gerber followed with an RBI single. Cal Fischer was inserted to run for Gerber and scored on Nathan Schmidt's right-centerfield double.

Maple Grove would put the game away in the sixth. Brody Berglin came in to pitch for Hagen, produced a zero in the bottom of the fifth, and the Crimson offense did the rest - producing six runs on four base hits, two walks, a hit by pitch, and an error. The Eagles would plate two runs of their own in the bottom half, but Maple Grove equaled that with two of their own on an Albeck two-run home run in the top of the 7th. Berglin finished with a zero in the bottom of the seventh for a three-inning save. Gerber and Schmidt both finished with two hits on the day.
