Rocky Road Woes Continue for Maple Grove
Box Score 5/14/2024
Coon Rapids 7, Maple Grove 6
Maple Grove jumped out to an early lead, plating two runs in the first against the Cardinals. Beckett Shimpa (1/3, R, BB) singled to start the rally, with Nathan Schmidt (0/3, R, HBP) getting hit by a pitch next to put runners at first and second. Kaden Harney (1/3, RBI, 2B, BB) followed with a run-scoring double, while Schmidt scored the second run of the inning on a balk by the Coon Rapids pitcher. The lead grew to four with an Evan O'Dwyer (2/3, R) single and a Brody Berglin (1/4, 2RBI, HR) two-run home run in the second inning.
Harney (3IP, 5H, 5ER, 2BB, 3K) started on the mound for MG and pitched a scoreless first inning before giving up four runs in the bottom of the second inning that tied the game. After a Cardinal error gave the Crimson another baserunner, Brady Aubut (1/4, RBI, R, 2B) doubled to put Maple Grove back in the lead, and scored himself on the second error of the inning.
The Crimson bats would score no more. With a pitching change for the red birds, the MG offense fell silent. Coon Rapids plated solo runs in the third, fourth, and sixth innings to take the NWSC victory and continue the road blues for Maple Grove.
