Seubert pitches, hits Crimson to victory! Shimpa goes deep and Taynton shines in dual role
Box Score 5/16/2026
Maple Grove 6, Champlin Park 3
Junior Damian Seubert (GS W 5IP 4H 2ER 7K) toed the rubber for MG and lasted deep into the game to get the victory; Senior Oliver Taynton (SV 2IP 0H 0R 3K) pitched the final two innings for the save as Maple Grove took down section opponent and former NWSC rival Champlin Park at Gleason on Saturday. Seubert pitched through some early trouble, giving up all four of his walks in the first two innings. The Rebels posted two runs in the second on a walk, a double, and an error, and would increase their lead to three with another run in the fourth coming via the long ball.
The Crimson battled back in the bottom half of the fourth, taking the lead on four consecutive hard hit balls. Taynton (2/4 2B R) started the rally with line drive double drilled to the top of the wall in left-center. Senior Evan O'Dwyer (1/3 BB R 2RBI) followed with a hot shot up the middle, scoring the first MG run. With O'Dwyer at first, junior Beckett Shimpa (2/4 2B HR R 2RBI) stepped to the plate and tied the game with a tape-measure shot to right-center field. On the next pitch, Seubert (2/3 HR R RBI) decided to help himself and sent his first home run of the season over the centerfield fence to give the home team a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Maple Grove added two insurance runs in the sixth on an RBI single by senior Preston Berg (1/4 RBI) and a bases loaded walk by O'Dwyer. Taynton was unhittable in his first varsity pitching appearance to close out the game.
