O'Dwyer Completes Resumed Game for Crimson Victory on Delayed Senior Night
Box Score 5/22/2024
Maple Grove 5, Osseo 3
In a game that began after honoring the Crimson seniors (Vann Olson, Nathan Schmidt, Kellen Riskedahl, Justin Boyum, Bjorn Nelson, Sam Hagen, Matthew Johnson, and Evan Schaefer; Announcer Maguire Doyle; Managers Isabelle Campbell and Kiera Willis) at Crimson Field on Friday night, May 17th, Evan O'Dwyer (W, CG, 7IP, 5H, 0ER) finished what he started and the Crimson did just more than enough on offense to come out victorious.
Maple Grove put up three runs in the bottom of the first inning on Friday to build a 3-0 lead. A 1-out single by Beckett Shimpa (1/4, R) started things off, followed by Nathan Schmidt (0/1, BB, HBP, R) getting hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second. A strikeout made it a 2-out at bat for Kellen Riskedahl (1/3, 2B, R, 2RBI) who promptly doubled to score two runs. Brady Aubut (2/3, RBI) singled to drive in Riskedahl and finish the first-inning scoring.
The Orioles rallied back with unearned runs in the second (1) and third (2) to tie the score before the storm hit Friday and delayed the game until Wednesday, May 22nd. Action resumed at Gleason Fields with MG hitting in the bottom of the third. Both teams' pitchers held the offenses in check for three innings.
With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Connor Wihlm (1/3) lined to center field for a single to provide a spark. Maddex Van Slooten came on to run for the Crimson catcher and ended up scoring the winning run, as Dylan Vokal hit a grounder that the Osseo third basemen threw up the right field line. Maddex came all the way around from first to score and Vokal ended up on third, scoring an insurance run one batter later on a wild pitch. O'Dwyer got a 1-2-3 top of the seventh to finish things off and secure the victory.
