Home Run Fest leads to Hornets' victory

Baseballs sailed over the fence Wednesday, with Edina launching five and Maple Grove hitting two round-trippers of their own. After two scoreless innings, the Hornets hit two two-run homers to take a 4-0 lead. Senior Preston Berg (1/2 HR R RBI) responded with his first home run of the season to make it 4-1 at the end of the third inning. However, the visitors kept slugging away, scoring five more runs in the fourth, two in the fifth, and a final two runs in the sixth to power their way to 13 runs. Senior Evan O'Dwyer (2/2 HR R RBI) hit his first bomb of the season in the fifth, but the Crimson scored no more and the game was called after six innings and an Edina lead of more than ten runs. McConnell (2/4 2HR 2R 4RBI 2SB) and Miller (CG W 6IP 6H 2ER 0BB 4K) led the way for the Hornets, while seniors Ian Farley (1/3) and Connor Wihlm (1/3) and junior Beckett Shimpa (1/3) contributed the Crimson's other hits on the day.
