The Crimson put up an early run in the top of the first with singles from Beckett Shimpa (1/4, R) and Nathan Schmidt (2/3, BB, HR, 2R, RBI), a wild pitch, and an RBI fielder's choice from Kellen Riskedahl (2/4, R, RBI). Shimpa (W, 5IP, 4H, 3R, 5K) then took the mound and shut down Armstrong completely in four of five innings, allowing runs (3) only in the third inning.
With the score set at 3-1 entering the top of the sixth, Maple Grove rallied for four runs to take the lead. Schmidt led off with a walk, following by a Riskedahl double down the left field line. With runners at second and third, Gavin Kustermann (1/2, BB, R) walked to load the bases with one out after a ground out couldn't advance or score the runners. Kaden Harney (1/1, 2B, R, 2RBI) came on to pinch hit and doubled to left field to score two. With runners at second and third, a fly out ensued that couldn't score a run; however, Evan O'Dwyer (1/1, 2RBI) followed with a pinch-hit single to score both runners and give the Crimson a 5-3 lead.
Matthew Kuno (SV, 2IP, 1H, 1R, 2K) came on in the sixth for MG. After a scoreless bottom half of the sixth, Schmidt hit his third home run of the season to provide another insurance run. Kuno came back out and closed the game down, giving the Crimson their second road victory of the season, their eighth win in total, and bringing their record back to .500
