Bulthuis gets first varsity win! Limric, Lenmark, Shimpa, Seubert all have multi-hit games!
Box Score 5/14/2026
Maple Grove 10, Spring Lake Park 1
Sophomore Jonny Bulthuis (W 5.1IP 4H 1ER 10K) got his first varsity start and his first varsity win, pitching into the sixth inning and striking out ten Panthers. Fellow sophomore Max Wegwerth (1.2IP 0H 0R K) then finished things off on the mound for the Crimson. At the plate, the Maple Grove bats kept belting out hits (10 in total) and runs (also 10), with senior Joey Limric (2/4 R), and juniors Vince Lenmark (2/4 2R SB), Beckett Shimpa (2/4 2x2B 2R 2RBI), and Damian Seubert (2/4 RBI) leading the way with muti-hit days. Senior Oliver Taynton (1/1 2SF BB 2RBI) matched Shimpa's 2RBI day with his team-leading second and third sacrifice flies of the season, and senior Connor Wihlm (0/1 SAC RBI BB) successfully plated a run on his team-leading third sacrifice bunt of the year.
MG scored a run in the first on Taynton's sacrifice fly and a wild pitch, then waited two innings before scoring two runs in the fourth on Shimpa's RBI double and Wihlm's sacrifice bunt. In the top of the fifth, the Crimson again plated a run on a Taynton sacrifice fly and followed that up by scoring on an error by the Panther second baseman. In the sixth and seventh, Maple Grove showed they could score in different denominations than two, scoring a lone run in the sixth on a single and an error and following that up with three runs in the seventh on another Shimpa double, a wild pitch, and a Seubert single.
By beating their section opponent Spring Lake Park, MG stretched their winning streak to six games. A trip to conference opponent Edina shows up next on the schedule, with another section opponent - Champlin Park - visiting Maple Grove on Saturday morning. Five games remain in the regular season; the Crimson sit at 11-5, and just inside the top ten of the QRF standings for Minnesota AAAA baseball.
