O'Dwyer pitches, Taynton and Shimpa hit blasts, Crimson Win
Box Score 4/22/2025
Maple Grove 9, Elk River 1
Junior Evan O'Dwyer (W, 6IP, 4H, 0ER, 5K) pitched a masterful six innings for the win, the Crimson got their bats going again at Gleason Fields, and the Elks were sent home defeated. The Maple Grove scoring started in the second inning with a lead-off double to left-center from sophomore Vince Lenmark (1/3, HBP, 2B, 2R) and an RBI single from junior Oliver Taynton (2/3, HR, 4RBI, R). After a scoreless third inning from both sides, Elk River struck back with a run in the top of the fourth to tie things up. However, O'Dwyer would shut the ER offense down for the next two innings while the Crimson bats woke up and did some damage.
With the scored set at 1-1, and the Elks having scored in the top of the fourth, the home squad responded with force in the bottom half of the inning. Senior Maddex Van Slooten (3BB, 2R, SB) led off with walk which was followed by a Lenmark hit-by-pitch to put two runners on with nobody out. Taynton then deposited the third pitch of his at-bat over the right field fence for the first Crimson home run of the season. But the scoring in the inning wasn't complete; a walk from junior Kaden Harney (1/2, BB, RBI, R, 2SB) and an infield single from senior Ian Schock (1/3, R, SB) set the table for another three-run bomb from sophomore Beckett Shimpa (2/4, 3RBI, R). Harney singled home a run in the fifth, and junior Ian Farley sharply scored on an errant pitch in the sixth to bring the Crimson run total to nine, and senior Brody Berglin (1IP, 1H, 0R, 2K) shut the door in the seventh.
