Crimson Bats Outslug Trojans but Wayzata Finds a Way to Win
Box Score 5/6/2024
Wayzata 3, Maple Grove 2
For most of the night, it was a pitcher's duel, with sophomore Evan O'Dwyer (CG, 6IP, 5H, 0ER) taking on Wayzata's senior lefty, Brady Lash (CG, W, 7IP, 7H, 2ER, 8K). The Crimson struck first blood when Nathan Schmidt (1/2, HR, 2BB) blasted a solo home run in the top of the initial frame. The score remained 1-0 MG until the bottom of the fourth, when the Trojans plated three unearned runs with two outs. Both pitchers again took form and held the 3-1 score until Maple Grove came to bat in the top of the ninth. Vann Olson (2/3, R) led off the inning with a single, and Gavin Kustermann followed suit. Dylan Vokal then pinch hit and placed a bunt that also resulted in a single. With the bases loaded, Olson scored on a passed ball before a strikeout ensued. Wayzata intentially walked Schmidt to reload the bases with one out and the score set at 3-2 and one out. Unfortunately, Maple Grove could not take advantage, and a douple play ended the threat, the inning, and the game.
