Crimson comeback falls short as Edina's bats are just enough to snap streak
Box Score 5/15/2026
Edina 5, Maple Grove 4
The Hornets plated an early run in the first on a double and a sacrifice fly but the Crimson quickly responded with a two run blast by junior Becket Shimpa (1/2 HR BB R 2RBI) in the top of the second. While the Edina offense continued to provide pop, scoring three runs in the third and another in the fifth, Maple Grove struggled to find rhythm, remaining silent for the majority of the game; senior Joey Limric (2/4 R) was the sole Crimson with multiple hits on the night.
The home team took a 5-2 lead into the final frame. Creating a comeback opportunity, MG put two runners on with two outs in the top of the seventh. After a walk loaded the bases, senior Preston Berg (1/4 2RBI) came through with a 2RBI single to bring the deficit to a single run. The tying run stood at third and the go-ahead run at second with two outs, but a questionable third strike call ended the comeback and the Hornets took a narrow Lake Conference victory.
