Led by Limric's Four Knocks, Crimson Advance to Section Final(s)
Box Score 6/4/2025
Maple Grove 7, Osseo 2
Joey Limric (4/4, BB, 2R) was on base all day, creating havoc for the Orioles. And while the Crimson loaded the bases and didn't score in the top of the first, the baserunners were a precursor to the way the day would go for the Osseo pitchers and defense. After junior Matthew Kuno (W, 5.2IP, 5H, 2R, 3K) shut down the Oriole offense in the bottom half of the first, the Maple Grove bats produced two runs in the second. Sophomore Vince Lenmark (1/3, BB, RBI, R) and senior Maddex Van Slooten (BB, 2R) both walked (Lenmark was erased on a caught stealing) before a Limric single. Junior Kaden Harney (1/4, 2B, SAC, 2RBI) followed with a two-run double.
After a few scoreless half-innings, the Orioles struck back for two runs of their own to tie the game with two singles and a double. However, this would be the entirety of the Osseo scoring. Maple Grove would respond immediately in the top of the fourth as Limric reached on a bunt single, advanced to second on a throwing error on the same play, and then scored on an ensuing error by Osseo's third baseman. In the fifth, the Crimson added three more runs with junior Oliver Taynton's (1/3, BB, RBI) RBI single and another error by a different Oriole third baseman that scored two more runs and vaulted the score to 6-2 MG.
After adding a final run in the top of the sixth on Osseo's seventh error of the game, Maple Grove led 7-2. Kuno got the first two outs of the sixth but loaded the bases with a hit-by-pitch and two walks and gave way to senior Ian Schock (SV, 1.1IP, 1H, 1K). Schock used one pitch to get a fielder's choice and end the inning, then gave up one hit but nothing else in the bottom of the seventh to earn his Crimson Baseball record-tying seventh save of the season. The victory puts Maple Grove in the Section 5AAAA final(s) versus Champlin Park on Thursday. Game time is set for 5pm, with an if necessary game to follow if the Crimson can win game one.
