Taynton hits game-tying homer in the seventh and go-ahead single in the ninth, Crimson win!
Box Score 5/19/2026
Maple Grove 6, Rogers 4 (9 inn)
Rogers got on the board early with two runs in the bottom of the first, but Maple Grove responded with a run of their own in the top of the second on a double from junior Damian Seubert (1/4 2B R RBI) and an RBI single from senior Ian Farley (3/3 SAC RBI). With the score set at 2-1, the Royals brought the MG deficit to three by adding two more runs in the bottom of the third.
Sophomore Jonny Bulthuis (GS 3IP 5H 4R 3K) got the start on the Mound for the Crimson, giving up all four of Rogers runs before junior Vince Lenmark (W 6IP 3H 0R 7K) came in and silenced the Royals offense for the remainder of the game to pick up the win.
At the plate, the visitors struggled to score, finally producing two more runs in the fifth. Junior Beckett Shimpa (2/5 HR 2R RBI) led off the inning with his fifth home run of the season. Then two singles and a fielder's choice set runners at first and third for a sacrifice fly from junior Damian Seubert (1/4 2B SF R RBI).
With MG's hopes dwindling, two out and down a run in the seventh, senior Oliver Taynton (3/5 HR 3R 2RBI) provided the theatrics, hitting a 1-0 pitch over the left-centerfield fence for a game-tying home run. After three scoreless half-innings taking the two teams to two extra innings, the Maple Grove senior would come up big one more time. Shimpa led off the ninth with a single, advanced to second on a beautiful sacrifice bunt from senior Preston Berg (1/3 SAC), and Taynton laced a single to left to drive in the run and give MG the lead. Senior Evan O'Dwyer (1/4 2B BB RBI) provided the final pop with an RBI double, and Lenmark sat down the Royals 1-2-3 in the bottom half for the Crimson victory.
