Bulthuis cruises threw five, Crimson bats produce 14 hits, 10 runs in elimination game

Sophomore Jonny Bulthuis (GS W 5IP H 0R 7K) took the hill for the Crimson and pitched one-hit baseball for five innings, shutting out the Pirates and allowing the Maple Grove offense to produce all the runs necessary for a successful victory in a section 5AAAA elimination game. The visiting hurler kept the sticks off-balance for two innings before MG exploded for three runs in the third and five more in the fourth, adding single runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings.
Seniors Joey Limric (3/5 3B 3R) and Oliver Taynton (3/4 SB 2R 2RBI) led the way at the plate with three hits apiece, while fellow senior Preston Berg (2/4 R 3RBI) produced three RBI and joined the multiple-hit parade along with junior Beckett Shimpa (2/4 BB R). Maple Grove advances to play Spring Lake Park on Tuesday at 3:30pm, with Mounds View waiting to play the winner in the Section 5AAAA semifinal. Champlin Park remains the only undefeated team and waits to play in the championship game(s) on Thursday.
