Huskies Strike Early, Add Runs, and Hold On vs Crimson
Box Score 4/17/2025
Andover 6, Maple Grove 4
The Huskies started the scoring in the first inning with a lead-off double that scored after an error during the subsequent play. The visitors added another run with a single and a fielder's choice and finished the preliminary tally with a third run scoring on a two-out wild pitch. Maple Grove plated a run of their own in the bottom of the inning. Senior Connor Wilhm (1/3, BB) led off with a walk and courtesy runner Ian Farley advanced to second and third on wild pitches before scoring on sophomore Beckett Shimpa's (2/3, RBI, BB) double.
Unfortunately, the Crimson could not plate another run in the first, second, or third and Andover added three more of their own in the the top half of the fourth with two walks, a hit-by-pitch, and a two-out three-run double. With the score set at 6-1, the home team scratched back a run in the bottom of the fourth when junior Kaden Harney (1/4, RBI) singled in a run. MG added two more runs in the fifth as senior Connor Johnson's (2BB, RBI, R) walk forced in a run and a wild pitch brought home another. However, with the bases loaded and nobody out, the Crimson could not bring home the final two runs needed to tie the game, grounding out twice and striking out to end the inning and the rally.
The sixth and seventh innings remained scoreless for both teams, with junior Matthew Kuno (3.1IP, 2H, 0R, 2K) coming in to squelch the Husky hitters, and the Crimson crew not able to produce runs themselves. Maple Grove did attempt a rally in the seventh with singles from Shimpa and junior Oliver Taynton (1/2, 2BB); however, the pair were left stranded and the Crimson fell for the fourth time in a row this season.
