O'Dwyer, Crimson win Pitchers Duel with Lakers

Box Score 5/18/2023

Maple Grove 2, Minneapolis Southwest 1

Evan O'Dwyer took the hill for Maple Grove on a beautiful Thursday afternoon and set the Lakers down in order in the top of the first, and again in the second. The Crimson responded by posting a run in each of the first two innings to take an early 2-0 lead. Sam Kliber was hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the first and promptly stole both second and third base, scoring on Hunter Gerber's one-out RBI single to right. In the Crimson half of the second, Brody Berglin reached on a one out single up the middle before stealing second base himself and scoring on O'Dwyer's single to right as well.

O'Dwyer got out of a jam in the third unscathed, produced three ground balls to Kliber in the fourth, and gave up one run in the fifth. In the sixth, he got help from some less-than-desirable Laker baserunning to set up a double play and end his night on the mound. Sam Hagen came in to close the door in the seventh. Amidst some small drama, Hagen induced three ground ball outs to end the contest. O'Dwyer earned the victory, going six innings, giving up six hits, one run, one walk, and striking out three. Hagen picked up his first save of the season, with a hit-free, run-free inning, allowing two runners on an error and a walk. Maple Grove wins their fourth game in a row to bring their overall record to 8-9.
